CAGED FURY
Rats don’t deserve their bad name, but this ball of fury won’t win over many murophobes. Russian scientists bred this aggressive rat strain to compare it with more docile creatures in a study on domestication that has teased out several genetic regions linked to tame traits.

Thu, 03 Nov 2011 11:43:00 -0700 Apple's Siri aka Pocahontas, Joan of Arc or Hal 9000 http://timphilippi.com/siri-could-have-been-called-pocahontas-watson http://timphilippi.com/siri-could-have-been-called-pocahontas-watson

Explored but not yet Conquered.

Siri assisted Steve Jobs & Apple, in the exploration on 'How to beat Google at its own game', Access. But how? Siri is our Virtual Assistant and Google is used for accessing the vast data you create on the Internet. Why Siri Is a Google Killer, Eric Jackson, Forbes explains how Siri's is a better solution to access information through search or by asking Siri and using Artificial Intelligence. Quite frankly, most of us use Google as our personal assistance by holding our files, communicates on our behalf in email, and by googling it (the list could go on). Eric clearly lays out the how the next digital frontier is how we communicate our life's data through Artificial Intelligence.

Thermonuclear War

"I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong," Jobs said. "I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this."  ~Steve Jobs, AP

Literally, Steve Jobs last breath was to engage Apple's nuclear launch sequence, inscribed Siri. Detonation: 2:13pm EST, Oct 4, 2011! Rumor has it that Steve left Apple a 3 or 4 year strategic plan and I'm willing to bet Siri is the new vision tied to all Apple products. I'll give it a Codename: Joan of Arc.

All Your Resource Are Belong To Us

What are all consumer driven companies after. Resources. During a disaster, lets say, uhm like a nuclear fallout, businesses need their Fans, Facebook Likes, and, simply put, consumers to survive. The Cold War Resource Race is on.

These conpanies - Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook, and Microsoft - are on the defense producing products which garner your attention.  Whether its patents, technology or other companies these cash cows are absorbing or developing them as part of their longterm visionary strategy. The difference with Siri, ahem Joan of Arc, is she is an all out offensive attack to get you interact with A.I. technology. After all, Siri is a user-interfaceless, hands free, voice activated device.

A rundown of key products from each company. Each products' foci is how it gather intelligence about you and your habits to get you to consume more of their products. All but unlike Siri their products main source of interactivity is touch.

I feel so strongly that all over companies are lagging behind Siri that I resort to name calling. If their product could talk, what would be their names.

Apple - Siri

Wed, 26 Oct 2011 06:58:00 -0700 Apple Alums build a better Thermostat. But I don't buy it. http://timphilippi.com/apple-alums-build-a-better-thermostat-but-i-d http://timphilippi.com/apple-alums-build-a-better-thermostat-but-i-d

What my current $20 programmable thermostat does not have.

  1. Wi-fi - Communicate remotely with your Thermostat via App (iOS or Andriod) or browser
  2. Family Nest - Connects to & supports multiple thermostats
  3. A Learning Thermostat - Senses; Motion (auto off: to build a schedule), Weather Aware (wifi enabled)
  4. Autosync updates to upgrade and improve its onboard OS
  5. Über Sleek Design

What I get with my current thermostat

  1. Heat & Cooling schedule is already programmed which saves money. I can track my savings in with MyEnergy, previously EarthAid. MyEnergy rewards you on energy savings and syncs data directly from your Utility provider, similar to how Mint.com syncs with your bank.
  2. I can already program my thermostat. Home or Away, my family's schedule doesn't change like the wind. Nest Labs quote people, on a yearly average, touch there thermostat 1500 times or 4-5 times a day. I maybe touch mine 1 a day.

Cons

  1. $249 - A price barrier to most consumers. Current programmable thermostats at the store range from $20-170. You won't have to raid your nestegg but most people will definitely need to save just to purchase Nest. Some may boast a 18-month payoff on an Average Annual savings $173 isn't a bad investment.

Conclusion

Nest will disrupt the home appliance market and undoubtedly take marketshare away from Honeywell. Their device alone will raise more awareness on how thermostats can save you money. These Apple alumns approached the thermostat and made it simpler to use and built an app that keeps you aware of your energy consumption.

All that being said, I will happily keep my cheap off-white ordinary thermostat and track my savings with MyEnergy. MyEnergy not only tracks energy consumption, their online application tracks Water and Gas. I get the same intrinsic rewards on helping the environment as real reward points to be exchanged for local goods or giftcards.

I'll change my mind when Nest syncs with my Utility company.

This is bizarre - after you find the guy - it's so obvious.

Once you find him - it's embarrassing, and you think,

'Why didn't I see him immediately?'

Man-in-coffee-beans
Doctors have concluded that if you find the man in the coffee beans in 3 seconds, the right half of your brain is better developed than most people. If you find the man between 3 seconds and 1 minute, the right half of the brain is developed normally. If you find the man between 1 minute and 3 minutes, then the right half of your brain is functioning slowly and you need to eat more protein. If you have not found the man after 3 minutes, the advice is to look for more of this type of exercise to make that part of the brain stronger!!

And, yes, the man is really there!!

After you find the man in the beans send your brainy friends here.

PS: I'm normal it took me around 5 seconds
